THE WORKS IN NEWARK AND FORT ANCIENT

the circle I stand in
the heaps of interest at hand
I heard of
I entered

the moon's arc plants one end here
are you with me? and
does the door open on rain
or the smothering heat

by the river the towns swell
no night dark enough
to smother their burning lights

are you? and when I
touch the old walks with my feet
songs that were
the same as seeds
gather

winter will come
our knowledge is shared
the stars we watch have taught
lines that enclose us

I have been dreamed of
encircled by dreams and resting earth
standing there silent a thought comes
the owl sees me
and goes off to the trees
