STORM DAMAGE

trees shattered
children crawling
a little downhill
a little uphill
through wolf cave

branches fell clustered
on the ground
a bright spot broken
in the leaves above
the wolf left us
his howl

when the trees broke
their roots lifted
half circles of clay
out of clay
a home is made

past the splintered trunks
for the first time
in a hundred years
the sun reaches
the forest floor

the dark howls
the light howls
differently
no home
made of clay
is untouchable

some have
a little time left
this involves you
and the wind blowing
the wind coming on
past your ears
