some restless leaves fill the air...

this early now momentous and young...

THEFT OF A LINE FROM BLY


cold morning but he hardly noticed
the rain drooped over him
leftover daffodil leaves were drooping in it
as a child he had a doll named droopy
a comical dog he cherished
for its conversation and privacy

the difficulty of transport
getting through to someone is just the beginning
of communication he thinks
where to have lunch
time can be felt as pressure
time can be felt! he realizes
it is inside us

the sky has cleared and he notices that
even after hard work during the day
he has high spirits
my spirits are high just now
he thinks though my mind droops

you can watch him get into his car
it takes him down the ramp round and round
the streets have cleared
it is nearly dark
everyone's world is realistic
but each is a different reality he thinks

the streets dried by friction
soil damp a white wrapper
in the shadows by the highway
one star brilliant in the west ahead
