INNER WORLD

the river rich in me
the waterfall in its central passage
that little boat on it
a breath taken
the sinking
breath released

above it the owls call
question or answer
in the shallows pummeling deeper
though they have what they need already
roots of reeds
colonize the still waters

in the woods all around
tomorrow's dews hide
in tonight's leaves
above the woods above the fume
of water falling above the owl calling
a star sheds itself trace of heaven
