ACCOUNT OF MY DAYS
Sequence: 3
THE AFFLICTED
That man has ears but he does not hear
he has eyes but does not see
legs but his walking takes him nowhere
All his efforts bend toward the final
reach of his hand into a white space
nothing comes out of
If he comes toward you stop him
if he walks away tie him to the parking meter
if he begins to talk listen closely
His forehead is cold your hands can warm it
his cheek is pale your lips can inflame it
he is trying to see through your eyes
You are trying to tell him not to move
put your hand on his chest it will slow him
give him your eyes it is all he wants
