OBSERVATIONAL

the starvation of our time looks like
itself and its opposite
some have much to say about it
some are silent
on this subject we have
both information to spare
and attention too spare

do we live in a desert
or slosh through the flood?
is it our hearts moving
in sympathetic beats
with other hearts
or the mind pushing
and pushing for sensation?

the means of travel
through desert or flood
differ greatly but
in both cases escape
from the condition is hard
and to shelter from it
we must leave it

which means
the desert is a flood
the flood a desert
but we are the same

in both we are
the creature who
builds shelters and
looks for escape
