AT THE WINDOW LOOKING OUT
a narrow street comes to mind...

LANDSCAPE WITH TWO MEN

in dark clothes walking over the year's
greenest grass agitation of spring all around
they walk with a stride that seems
unable to stray from the way set out
for them and unlikely to vary its pace

at the edge of the pasture is a wood
once there the footing will become rougher
but you can't imagine their stride even then
will alter or that they will have trouble
finding their way through the tangle

but you can imagine once they are out of earshot
and they know anyone looking could hardly see
one of them turns his head so very slightly
and says softly a few words chosen with care
to suit the moment and the reason they go
