MY LIFE DOES THE MATH

my life poorer by a day
thinks it only has so much it can imagine
and so it must save and be careful
not to spend its imagination
on things it won't have time to use
like luxury vacations to the moon

but then it counts again
this isn't so bad it's more than I thought
and don't forget the future also
has lost a day
so the little I can imagine
compares well with what remains of time

my life feels rich
it invents new days of the week
and names them after false gods
we will have in the future
and then discard in a further future
while saving the longer week
and converting the holy days
to days off for drinking and gifts
or lounging on beach chairs
by the sea of tranquillity
