AFTER

the crowd without its beggar
has nothing to give

the lonely one tastes everything
in his need of love's salt

amens of prayers fall back
to earth too full to rise

footprints are no deeper than
the ground's willingness to give

every morning we wash our faces
the water is carried away to the sea

the sea is full and shining
containing so many faces

the splash after a dolphin's leap
is looking at you with many eyes
