PRAYER

heart made of dirt
that circles itself
through the trees through the deep-stretched roots

that entices light
to be its blood
that sugars its extensions
salts its countless motions

that lowers itself through the rocky basement
that reaches around itself to stay what tries to run away

that covers itself in every color every garment
that lets its strength spring out unexpected
amongst the darkened tribe departing ones

that discovers each beat
as a new measure
marking out its tirelessness
its eager delight

endure me march me warn me
before I overcome myself
in striking out only for one shore
the distant line I let myself see
