SO FAR AS I CAN AGAIN the trees at night stretch out amid voices croakish old in a dark shared with white eyes overhead between banks of sunset sunrise a river of shadow cuts its way wherever it can press its claims to be trusted with the gold rise of the moon and me as I am empty I am light enough to be carried away easily on it at rest on a bed of reflections from houses backed to the river I eric rensberger poet of these words run them again on my tongue smooth as night runs between day and day these reflections of my days grow longer and still I have so far to go again I share these reflections so far as I can for I have the hands and mind for it wind is up cooler now the eyes fly on some have gone the easy dark holds me up and I could almost say I've arrived
