AROUND

the way the world looked to him

handlength by handlength a way of measure

confusion of black limbs cast across the early light

the day to come as a destination and the night to follow
    as a failure to arrive

which will leave him as always stranded at an accident
between the start and the intention

the way to go hard to grasp the time spent counted by
    surprises

he has found another point of rest and will sleep there
    tonight

before morning under the final stars of night he will
awake and look out from where he has come

and yesterday's attempt what was foreseen and expected
    but unachieved

will stand out suddenly from all else in his mind

as the place he might never come to or as a vision and
he will almost forget that at the time it was
    exactly

the way the world looked to him
