ACCOUNT OF MY DAYS
Sequence: 5
ADJUST
At last the flow of water has changed:
slower, less abrupt, unwilling to lose
its form. Now fire becomes thoughtful,
not wanting to have to take over since
its old partner has partly withdrawn
and partly changed the rules. We're redesigning
dams, levees, and cups. Our bodies move
differently--some say with more dignity,
some say like drugged. And when I ask you
to wash me, and you leave the room
to make everything ready, and I hear
you rustling around, singing to yourself
softly as before, I don't know what to expect.
