ACCOUNT OF MY DAYS
Sequence: 7
IN THE GREAT BEWILDERMENT
just as in a set of words
the sun can rise in a pale sky
changing it by its power
of unbearable shining
ahead of me and behind me
there are people excusing themselves
the wrongs are trivial
but a great fault has been let loose
because we must crowd together
someone must be the first to own it
though what his words
are meant to account for
has vanished into its own world
before we could get to this one
vanished like a dull-colored bird
that after its clear easy trill
rises from its narrow twig
to the empty sky
