SOME EVENTS
some flakes on the way down stopped by
and therefore piled up along the fine branches
outline the lacing of the woods running
up and down the hills and into the ravines
the square empty shell of the grist mill's
foundation walls opens to the clear or greenish
water of raccoon creek that rose and twice killed
the mill till the old man wouldn't rebuild
but wouldn't leave the land either
so he lived on it till he died and left that way
if you park by the stone angel in the corner
of the cemetery the walk on the muddy old road
over to the track going down and across the face
of the bluff under the hemlocks then creekside
to the ruins takes twenty minutes
