TO THE ASIAN MARKETS
we can be proud of our success
and still not ready to believe we can survive at all
the Asian markets fall
there is a bubble in the smooth water of our sleep
one sits up suddenly gasping for breath
another tumbles out of bed
having dreamt he was climbing but then
a rung was reached that could be a snake
and the attempt to step over may be the right way
to enter pure air an ancient element and join with
gravity a great power in our world
to come home to earth formerly our goddess
in a way which makes possible an old human aspiration eternal
rest
