8/24/05

the dusk comes out and takes the woods
into her arms

they are very close

a buzzing and scurrying surrounds them
as though all the night-active creatures
are their children drawing near

oh these have real parents of course
but the dusk and the woods
have the kind of love for each other
that attracts all those
looking for a home

a star or two looks on

some come by who don't know
what world they're in
they just want a few minutes rest

so happy these few moments
that come each day
it's as if dusk and woods
have always been together

but there was a time they each
wandered alone
brave careful superficially content

while inside the breast of each
a secret wish too sentimental to name
stirred from time to time
shy creature that lives by hiding
